Paper & Paperboard Coating

Coated paper and paperboard grades benefit from treatment with WACKER products, whether precoating of the substrate or refinement of the already printed material. Customized VINNAPAS® vinyl acetate-ethylene (VAE) polymer dispersions provide the required properties to deliver eye-catching printing results. HDK® pyrogenic silica is applied to the paper as a dispersion, forming a porous layer that fixes the ink and thereby ensures high image quality. WACKER's silicone emulsions for slip emulsions are used in the post-treatment of web offset printing products.

VINNAPAS® vinyl acetate-ethylene (VAE) polymer dispersions are customized binders for coated paper and paperboard. They meet the brightness, opacity, smoothness and strength requirements of offset, rotogravure, flexographic and other printing methods.

Benefits:

  • High quality
  • High pigment-binding strength
  • Brilliant opacity and brighness
  • High ink receptivity

Applications:

  • Paperboard coating on packaging products, from cereal boxes to high-end cosmetic cartons and bags
  • Publication paper coating

HDK® pyrogenic silicas, especially the hydrophilic grades, are used in paper-coating dispersions to increase the ink receptivity of inkjet paper. Ink is adsorbed via capillary action through the pores of the silica network. The high surface area of silica enables its utilization in all common glossy photo papers.

Benefits:

  • Increased ink receptivity
  • Improved image quality

Applications:

  • Office printing
  • Industrial printing
  • Glossy photo paper
