Electrical Insulation Industry

Silicone resins are an invisible but essential component in many electrical insulation materials and composites. WACKER’s SILRES® range of heat-stable, electrically insulating and water-repellent binders are used in many consumer goods and their functionality is something we take for granted in our daily lives.
WACKER offers ideal silicone resins for electrically insulating materials and composites in a wide range of consumer goods such as toasters, hairdryers, kettles, dishwashers, washing machines or electric railway vehicles.

Silicone-resin-bound laminates based on mica, glass fiber or mineral fiber permanently withstand extreme temperatures, yet retain their electrical and water-repellent properties, as well as their high mechanical strength..

SILRES® silicone resins are ideal for use as binders in the production of preceramics as well as ceramic or sintered molded products based on inorganic matrix materials.

Benefits:

  • Excellent electrical insulation properties over a wide temperature and frequency range
  • High heat resistance
  • Water-repellent and highly resistant to moisture
  • Flame retardant and no release of toxic vapors in the event of fire
  • Pyrolysis yields electrically insulating products
  • Permanent weathering and radiation resistance
  • Media resistance

SILRES® silicone resins give the fillers in tubular heating elements moisture-repellent properties. Heat-stable silicone rubber compounds from the ELASTOSIL® series protect the heating element from moisture penetration. In combination, these WACKER products prevent premature corrosion of the heating filament and ensure that the appliances have a long service life.

Benefits:

  • High heat resistance
  • Excellent electrical insulation properties
  • Formation of a durable moisture barrier
  • Flame retardant
  • Pyrolysis yields electrically insulating products

Silicon-resin-bound mica tapes thus guarantee both the functional reliability of fire-proof safety cables and the stable operation of high-performance traction motors or generators.

The customized solvent-based formulations in the SILRES® series enable fast impregnation of the mica paper as well as the support layer, and boost the efficiency of mica tape production due to fast curing. At the same time, the cured binder gives the mica tape the high degree of flexibility and mechanical strength required for automated taping.

Benefits:

  • Fast impregnation of matrix materials
  • Rapid heat-curing
  • High heat resistance
  • Excellent electrical insulation properties
  • Flame retardant
  • Water-repellent and highly resistant to moisture
