Plastify sustainability workshop in Singapore

In conjunction with WACKER Southeast Asia’s sustainability week, Singapore colleagues participated in a sustainability workshop hosted by Plastify, Singapore’s first plastic-maker community workspace. The Plastify team shared the grim realities of the plastic usage process and demonstrated the company’s own plastic waste recycling endeavors. The participants then tried their hand at converting plastic waste, like bottle caps, into coasters, keychains, and ornaments – baby steps toward a larger cause for more responsible plastic usage.

Sustainability week challenge

A sustainability challenge was organized in conjunction with our sustainability week, to encourage colleagues to incorporate eco-friendly practices into daily life. Participants showcased themselves engaging in a range of eco-conscious activities including recycling, minimizing food waste, and reducing single-use plastics. The challenge garnered fervent participation, as teams from various countries rallied together to produce outstanding submissions. We hope these efforts plant the seeds of sustainability as a lifestyle!

Team Malaysia’s sustainability carnival

At the sustainability carnival hosted by Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Confucian in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, our WACKER Malaysia team spent a fruitful afternoon participating in lively activities with the students. Themed around sustainability, this carnival was part of the school’s Project Based Learning (PBL) initiative, where the students displayed handmade booths, crafted ingeniously out of recycled material. Our Malaysia team was proud to have played a role in the young generation’s efforts to learn more about sustainability.

Team Thailand’s mineral salt lick

On the environmental front, they participated in a project to construct a mineral salt lick in Thailand’s Khao Yai National Park, digging trenches for mineral salt to be scattered for animals to use as a natural mineral source. Though backbreaking, this was a rewarding and educational experience for the Thai team.

Southeast Asia plants trees

For the first time in four years, the whole Southeast Asia regional team gathered in person for the Annual Meeting. On the last day, the team bonded over a damp plot of land, collectively planting more than 100 new trees, each little biological time capsule proudly preserved for the next generation. This activity served as a unique embodiment of WACKER’s own commitment to sowing a sustainable future – one tree at a time.

Team Thailand and ocean conservation

Our Thailand team visited Dongtarn beach, Chonburi, Thailand, to help dispose of the trash on its shores. Clean beaches go a long way in protecting the marine ecosystem and biodiversity. Later, they visited the Royal Thai Navy Sea Turtle Conservation Center, to help clean the turtle pond free of lichen to temporarily house baby sea turtles before their return to the ocean. These beloved creatures play a key role in maintaining the health of the Earth’s oceans.
