Forever and Ever?
We have a solution for unwanted graffiti and illegal stickers and posters! Our specially developed silicone coating makes walls easy to clean with just water – the coating also acts as a protective film for art that is intended stay where it is, like the graffiti on the Berlin Wall or the paint job in a recently remodeled pedestrian underpass in Munich.
Unwanted graffiti is a never-ending problem all over the world, affecting buildings, trains, railway stations and underpasses in particular. Once a wall or train has been defaced, it is often up to the local authorities, public services or even the railroad operators to repair the damage – at an approximate cost of more than 500 million euros a year in Germany alone. In the United States, the Department of Justice puts the annual cost at some twelve billion dollars.
We have the solution: SILRES® BS 710 opens the door to permanent, vapor-permeable anti-graffiti coatings that make graffiti and posters easy to remove with water. The coating can be transparent or pigmented.

In addition to protecting surfaces, permanent anti-graffiti coatings also make paint and adhesives easier to remove. The source of these properties is SILRES® BS 710, a liquid, one-component, room-temperature-curing silicone rubber that can be brushed or sprayed onto surfaces at temperatures ranging from 5 to 30 °C to create a transparent or pigmented coating. On contact with atmospheric moisture, the silicone rubber crosslinks from the outside in, forming a strong, permanently adhesive silicone film after about 4 hours.

Facades are not the only surface you may want to protect from unwanted street art. Sometimes you want to protect the street art itself. Take for example a pedestrian and cyclist underpass at Munich’s Ostbahnhof station, which is located quite close to our new headquarters: initiated by an interdisciplinary collective known as “Die Städtischen,” this dreary, 160 meter tube was transformed in 2023 into a public space for art – and into a safe, pleasant passageway. In addition to a wealth of creative talent, the METAMORPHOSIS project also succeeded thanks to SILRES® BS 710: applied as a final coating over the colorful paint, the product will protect the cheerfully decorated underpass from graffiti and from unwanted posters and stickers.
Strong through Silicones
SILRES® BS 710 combines two outstanding graffiti-protection properties. First, the silicone rubber adheres extremely well to various mineral substrates, but especially to concrete, brick, plaster, sandstone, lime sandstone and natural stone. It also forms a strongly anti-adhesive film with very little affinity for spray paints or poster adhesives, as the surface tension of the latter is much higher than that of silicones. If pretreated with a suitable primer, even non-mineral surfaces, such as plastics, glass or metal (with or without coating), can be protected.
Other properties typical of silicones pay off as well:
- Water-vapor permeability: the crosslinked silicone film is breathable, enabling an exchange of moisture within the facade.
- Temperature resistance: SILRES® BS 710 coatings withstand heat and freezing temperatures.
- UV and weathering resistance: protection is likewise unaffected by direct sunlight or heavy rain.
