Medical Protective Suits

Binders

Face masks, gowns, protective suits and gloves are among the basic equipment currently being worn throughout hospitals and care facilities in the fight to halt the spread of the corona pandemic. If such personal protective equipment (PPE) is in short supply, medics cannot go about their work properly.

Demand for PPE has grown strongly across the medical and the private sectors in recent weeks and months. The demand for disposable protective suits for medics has had a particular impact on WACKER’s POLYMERS division.

Some of the chemical company’s binders are employed in the nonwoven fabrics used to make the protective suits. The suits provide a protective barrier against splashes of liquids, thus helping to contain the spread of infectious diseases. Consequently, special requirements are imposed on the suit material. WACKER binders help meet these requirements.

Great Binding Power Combined with High Flexibility

The binders sold by WACKER under the name VINNAPAS® combine very strong binding power with high flexibility. “In the case of disposable protective suits, VINNAPAS® dispersions help bind the fibers of the nonwoven fabric together. The binder improves the tensile strength preventing the material tearing without impairing its softness. In addition, it ensures very good fluid absorption and is also safe in contact with the skin,” explains Zoltan Sattler, Sales Director for Binders for Consumer Goods and Industrial Applications at WACKER.

WACKER has been offering a wide range of polymer dispersions, dispersible polymer powders and solid resins under its VINNAPAS® brand since 1950. They are used in numerous industries to enhance product properties.

The dispersions, dispersible polymer powders and solid resins supplied by WACKER are based on vinyl acetate. The raw material vinyl acetate monomer, in combination with other substances, such as ethylene, is the basis for several hundred applications-specific formulations. WACKER also supplies binders based on renewable raw materials under the VINNAPAS® eco brand.
