The 1990s was a time of change in the Indian economy; liberalization brought with it a huge surge in demand for quality products. WACKER perceived this demand, and acknowledged it by strengthening its presence in the Indian market for silicone products.
WACKER currently operates in India as two distinct legal entities – the 51% fully consolidated subsidiary, Wacker Metroark Chemicals (WMC) with its plant near Kolkata, as well as the 100% subsidiary, Wacker Chemie India (WCIN).
Similar to WACKER, the joint venture Indian partner Metroark has also been providing innovative product solutions within the Indian subcontinent since independence in 1947. In 1965, it became the first Indian company to supply silicones, by producing silicone fluids from chlorosilane (a monomer). Thanks to its unique R&D unit, it because a DST-recognized facility in 1975.
WACKER and Metroark started a joint venture in 1999 when the existing entity Wacker Metroark Chemicals was founded at a site near Kolkata. In addition, a compounding plant was inaugurated in June 2011. Wacker Chemie India Pvt. Ltd. was incorporated in 2009. Activities relating to business development, sales, sales support, and customer service for WACKER POLYMERS, WACKER BIOSOLUTIONS and WACKER POLYSILICON are performed by the corporate and sales office based in Mumbai. The state-of-the-art technical center was inaugurated in 2009 as well.
WACKER POLYMERS is represented by Wacker Chemie India Pvt Ltd. (WCIN) and WACKER SILICONES by Wacker Metroark Chemicals Pvt. Ltd. (WMC).

We have our corporate office based in Mumbai, with branch offices in Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore and a liaison office in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Our extensive local R&D facilities and experienced technical support team are unmatched in the industry, and are in a unique position to provide solutions for diverse Indian requirements.
With its own production site for silicone products, as well as an extensive R&D setup for other divisions, a lot of what WACKER sells is “Made in India,” customizing global WACKER technology. Our products meet all WACKER quality requirements and are now exported worldwide.
International agencies have certified our Indian plant to ISO 14001 and 9001 as regards our environmental management and quality management systems. As part of a German conglomerate, it is also bound by strict EHSS standards. In 2011, another plant was added for manufacturing ready-to-use SILMIX® silicone elastomers. The plant is designed for an annual production volume of several thousand metric tons and can be expanded in stages as demand requires.
