ELASTOSIL® eco:
The Sustainable Silicone Sealant

At WACKER, we develop and produce silicone sealants for do-it-yourself applications as well as for professional users. ELASTOSIL® eco is our sustainable solution for the field of silicone sealants. It is versatile, of high quality, durable and sustainable: four properties – one quality promise. ELASTOSIL® eco products are made of 100% silicone and conserve fossil resources, without compromising on quality.

ELASTOSIL® eco: The Sustainable Alternative

A key component in the manufacture of silicone sealants is methanol. We make ELASTOSIL® eco by replacing the fossil-derived methanol with the required amount of sustainable, certified biomethanol in accordance with the mass balance method. This makes ELASTOSIL® eco a sustainable silicone sealant for a wide range of applications.

Certified and Transparent

A key element is the traceability of the renewable raw materials employed in the production process. To this end, we have had the entire production process for the ELASTOSIL® eco line validated and confirmed by TÜV Nord as being compliant with the REDcert2 standard.

Top-notch quality combined with resource-conserving technology: ELASTOSIL® eco sealants differ only from standard ELASTOSIL® sealants in the source of the methanol. They otherwise deliver exactly the same quality as our other premium products and can be processed in the usual way.

Biomethanol from a Sustainable Source

Methanol can be produced from coal and natural gas, but also from renewable raw materials. We use the mass balance method to calculate the required amount of biomethanol and feed this into the production process. This biomethanol is produced from sustainable, certified biomass, i.e. primarily from grass cuttings, straw or sugar beet scraps.

How it Works: The Mass Balance Method – Made Simple

What is the difference between ELASTOSIL® and ELASTOSIL® eco? And how exactly does the mass balance method work? The following video gives clear answers to both these questions. The only difference between ELASTOSIL® and ELASTOSIL® eco is the methanol – the production process is otherwise identical. See for yourself!
