Tufted Broadloom Carpets
In tufted broadloom carpets, VINNAPAS® vinyl acetate-ethylene (VAE) polymer dispersions are used in precoats and secondary coatings. VINNAPAS® vinyl acetate-ethylene (VAE) polymer dispersions provide effective adhesion between the different layers. When used in the primary coating (precoat), VINNAPAS® products provide the strength to lock the tufts of yarn in place (tuftbind). In the secondary coating, they firmly bind the secondary backing to the carpet, resulting in robust dimensional stability.

Multi-Layered Structure of a Tufted Broadloom Carpet
Primary Backing
Can be made from woven or nonwoven fabrics. Main function: carrier for fibers.
Precoat
Formulated with VINNAPAS® VAE dispersions; filled with calcium carbonate (selected fillers) and adjusted with additives, e.g., dispersing agents or thickeners. The precoat fixes the fibers to the primary backing.
Secondary Coating
Formulated with VINNAPAS® VAE dispersions; filled with calcium carbonate (selected fillers) and adjusted with additives, e.g., dispersing agents or thickeners. Main function: delamination properties; fixation of secondary backing; contributes to the dimensional stability of carpets.
Secondary Backing
Commonly made of woven polypropylene. Felt or heavy-weight backings are also used. Contributes significantly to the carpet’s dimensional stability.
