SILRES® BS 6510

$SILRES® BS 6510

SILRES® BS 6510 is a solvent-free acrylic siloxane copolymer emulsion developed for use in protective coatings.

The copolymerization of acrylic with siloxane chemistry facilitates a more homogeneous distribution of the hydrophobic siloxane component throughout the applied film compared to a simple mixture of the two chemistries.   This leads to a longer protection of the substrate from harsh environmental and man-made elements.

  • Durable: withstands heavy traffic,
  • Hard: resists dirt pick-up
  • Flexible: endures freeze/thaw movement

Applications

  • Architectural Coatings
  • Concrete Protection
  • Hydrophobic Impregnation

Properties

SILRES® BS 6510 incorporates well into water-based formulations to provide improved properties for wood paints/stains and concrete anti-stain formulations.

SILRES® BS 6510 can be used as an additive, a resin modifier, or used as the sole binder to improve:

  • True Alternative to Fluoro Based Technologies
  • Long term water repellency
  • UV protection
  • Excellent penetration, small particle size allows a deeper penetration into the pores of wood and concrete for a breathable, long-lasting barrier from water & photochemical degradation as well as mitigate oil-based stains
  • Reduced water uptake, protecting substrates longer than traditional organic resins & waxes

Recoatability

Substrates which are coated with SILRES® BS 6510 are generally re-coatable with solvent borne coatings. A test patch should be performed prior to general application with the customer's approval to ensure that desired appearance is achieved.

Specific features of SILRES® BS 6510

  • Emulsions
  • Hydrophobic
  • Liquid
  • One-component
  • UV & weathering-resistant
  • weatherability

Surface Preparation

Surface preparation depends on substrate placement, type and strength, curing and finishing processes, age, condition, previous contamination, and the presence of existing coatings as well as the application of SILRES® BS 6510. Surfaces should be clean from dust, dirt, oils, grease, curing compounds, other coatings, efflorescence, and laitance before applying SILRES® BS 6510.

Cleaning methods which are compatible with the application of SILRES® BS 6510 include:

  • Mechanical: abrasive blasting (sand, baking soda, vacuum)
  • Chemical: acid etching, stripping, solvent de-greasing, caustic soda scrubbing, alkaline soap scrubbing, high pressure washing, high pressure washing with sand
  • Heat: propane and acetylene torching

If strongly acidic or caustic cleaning agents are used, neutralize the surface and completely wash to remove any residues. Before using any surface preparation method, a test patch should be performed with the customer's approval to ensure that their needs are met.

Clean Up

Thoroughly rinse application equipment with water if wet/uncured or solvent if dried.

CONCRETE APPLICATIONS:

SILRES® BS 6510 should be applied as supplied to achieve the desired application effect. One to two coats of the solution should be applied to achieve an enhanced appearance. Two to three coats of the solution should be applied to achieve an enhanced appearance with gloss. SILRES® BS 6510 can be applied with a soft, lint-free cloth, sponge, or paint brush. Excess material should be removed to prevent inconsistencies in the enhancement. The product should be fully cured within 24 hours.

A test patch should be performed prior to general application with the customer's approval to ensure the desired appearance is achieved.

Storage

Protect from freezing

The "Best use before end date" of each batch is shown on the Certificate of Analysis.

Storage beyond the date specified on the Certificate of Analysis does not necessarily mean that the product is no longer usable. In this case however, the properties required for the intended use must be checked for quality assurance reasons.
