My World at WACKER
I was born in Iran and I came to Germany to study in 2011. I started working part-time while I was still studying. I’ve worked in numerous companies because I wanted to build up a good network. But I’ve never felt as at home as I do here at WACKER. I started out as an external Service Point employee and team leader at the Munich headquarters, working very closely with two internal colleagues. Because they gave me so much insight into the job and the company, I was able to take over from one of those colleagues when the time came – he retired after 45 years at WACKER. It really impresses me to see how loyal WACKER employees are: many of them have been here for a very long time, and very few leave to change jobs.
Some of my main tasks include managing external employees, sourcing management and supporting WACKER management with regards to IT topics: I advise the Executive Board and Supervisory Board about technical developments, provide executive support and am responsible for developing, planning and carrying out subprojects.
After the pandemic started, we switched all of our meetings, conferences and sessions involving the Executive Board to a virtual format, including the annual shareholders’ meeting, the annual press conference and Supervisory Board meetings, in compliance with all regulations and rules. We had already prepared the digital groundwork beforehand.
The annual shareholders’ meeting took place before the coronavirus pandemic at the International Congress Center in Munich – we couldn’t do that anymore after 2020. Digitizing an event with around one thousand participants was a major challenge, as we only had two months for implementation and execution, but we did a great job of rising to the occasion.
But the next challenge is already knocking on the door: our headquarters is being relocated to another site in Munich in 2023. My team and I will be taking care of the IT equipment using our future hybrid concept, among other things.
WACKER has a strong IT base – even though we’re not an IT company. But that’s the key point. We don’t sell IT products, but work solely for our own company. That means we work for WACKER with a lot of enthusiasm and put our hearts into it. I think that makes a big difference compared to other companies: we have more fun, more motivation and therefore much higher quality.
