Increasing Bioavailability
Hydrophobic substances such as curcumin or coenzyme Q10 are poorly absorbed by the body. However, the bioavailability of ingredients is very important for providing the desired health effects. CAVAMAX® cyclodextrins are naturally occurring oligosaccharides with a three-dimensional hydrophobic cavity, which can trap a lipophilic molecule as “guest”. This encapsulation improves the bioavailability of the lipophilic molecule, since it can be transported into the body as far as the digestive tract, where it is absorbed by the epithelial cell membrane.
Human Clinical Study - Absorption of Total Curcuminoids Over Time
Already one hour after ingestion of CAVACURMIN®, the curcuminoid concentration in the blood was significantly higher than for all other commercial formulations and remained at a high level for twelve hours.
Curcumin is among the best known biofunctional substances, with many health effects confirmed in countless studies. However, its bioavailability is low. CAVACURMIN® is a highly bioavailable curcumin powder, which is absorbed about 40 times more efficiently than pure curcumin extract. The free-flowing, readily dispersible powder is formulated by complexing natural curcumin with the oligosaccharide gamma-cyclodextrin. The human clinical study on bioavailability was published in the peer-reviewed European Journal of Nutrition in 2018 (Purpura et al., Eur J Nutr, 2018. 57:929-938).
Human Clinical Study - Relative Absorption of Total Curcuminoids (AUC)
CAVACURMIN® has a bioavailability that is about 40 times higher than that of pure curcumin extract. This allows the considerably higher effectiveness at much lower doses.
Advantages:
- About 40 times more bioavailable
- Bioavailability confirmed in peer-reviewed clinical study
- Supplied as a dry, free-flowing powder
- Readily soluble in aqueous solutions
- Vegan, kosher and halal
Significantly Increased Bioavailability in Healthy Adult Volunteers
18-fold higher bioavailability (as measured by AUC) for CAVAQ10® vs. negative control: physical mixture of CoQ10 with microcrystalline cellulose (MCC).
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), also known as ubiquinone, is a redox carrier in the mammalian respiratory transport chain, and therefore plays an important role in human energy metabolism. Besides functioning as an essential energy source, e.g. for the heart muscle, it also acts as an important antioxidant by scavenging free radicals. Because of its inherent fat solubility, however, it is only bioavailable to a limited extent. CAVAQ10® is a non-covalent bonding of coenzyme Q10 and gamma-cyclodextrin with about 18 times increased bioavailability. The significantly higher relative absorption of CAVAQ10® has been proven in a clinical study (Terao et al., Nutr Res, 2006, 26:503-508). CAVAQ10® is a readily dispersible powder suitable for versatile applications as dietary supplements.
Advantages:
- Around 18 times higher bioavailability
- Bioavailability confirmed in peer-reviewed clinical study
- Supplied as a dry, free-flowing powder
- Easily dispersible in aqueous systems
- Vegan
