WACKER® FINISH WR 215 LV

WACKER® FINISH WR 215 LV is a reactive modified aminofunctional polydimethylsiloxane for use in non-yellowing and moisture neutral textile finishing.

Properties

WACKER® FINISH WR 215 LV is particularly suitable as active substance in softener formulations for the impregnation of fibers and textiles. WACKER® FINISH WR 215 LV imparts a soft, drapable, and elastic touch to woven and knitted fabrics. WACKER® FINISH WR 215 LV imparts excellent slickness and resilience to the fibre. Furthermore textiles treated with WACKER® FINISH WR 215 LV improve moisture management. Additionally wash-and-wear properties and the crease recovery angle, sewability and tear strength are increased and abrasion loss is reduced. The effects are fast to washing and dry cleaning.

WACKER® FINISH WR 215 LV does not contain SVHC relevant impurities of more than 0.1% each, e.g. cyclics D4, D5 or D6.

WACKER® FINISH WR 215 LV is suitable for the formulation of micro emulsions and macro emulsions. WACKER® FINISH WR 215 LV can be utilized as the active substance in softener emulsions or in combination with other components, e.g. paraffin waxes, organic softeners, etc. Compatibility of the components has to be checked in each individual case. When applied under normal conditions as part of a softener formulation, WACKER® FINISH WR 215 LV has no effect on the whiteness. In fact, it has no perceptible influence on the color or color fastness of textiles and fibers in general.

Processing:

WACKER® FINISH WR 215 LV can be applied neat, from solution, or emulsion. Suitable solvents are aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, chlorinated hydrocarbons, esters, higher alcohols, and ketones. Most textile processes are water based. Hence WACKER® FINISH WR 215 LV is mainly applied from emulsion. Emulsions prepared of WACKER® FINISH WR 215 LV are diluted to the optimum concentration for the specific fabric. Application can be done either by padding or exhaustion method.

Typical formulation
7.0 parts i-tridecyl-O-(EO)5-H (HLB 11)
5.0 parts i-tridecyl-O-(EO)8-H (HLB 13)
3.0 parts polyethylene glycol 400 (PEG 400)
12.0 parts demineralized water
20.0 parts WACKER® FINISH WR 215 LV
52.78 parts demineralized water
0.12 % acetic acid 80%
0.1 parts preservative

For emulsion manufacturing slow shear mixers are sufficient (e.g. blade, anchor, propeller, etc.).
Add the emulsifiers to the demineralized water and thoroughly homogenize. Slowly add WACKER® FINISH WR 215 LV and stir until the product is homogeneous. Finally dilute with demin. water, add the acetic acid and the preservative. The first milky emulsion then clarifies. Filter the emulsion through a fine Perlon fabric.

Storage

The "Best use before end" date of each batch is shown on the product label. Emulsions showing signs of creaming should be agitated before use to assure uniform consistency. Storage beyond the date specified on the label does not necessarily mean that the product is no longer usable. In this case however, the properties required for the intended use must be checked for quality assurance reasons.
