AMERICOAT 134

AMERICOAT 134 is a release coating based on methyl phenyl siloxane polymers. The fully cured coating provides a nonstick, slippery surface suitable in applications for the release of baked bread type products. Adequate heat and dwell time at peak metal temperatures is absolutely necessary to initiate and complete the full cure of this thermoset polysiloxane coating.

Fully cured AMERICOAT 134 is suitable for coatings that come in contact with food per 21CFR175.300, provided all the solvent is removed. When used in contact with food, the coating must be fully cured per recommendations for cure cycles. In addition, when used in contact with food all use and extractive limits must be met as specified in 175.300.*

 

  • Under Title 21 “Food and Drugs,” Part 175.300, Resinous and Polymeric Coatings, ” full compliance with the regulation is the responsibility of the user.

This product requires dilution with Tert-Butyl Acetate (TBA) before application at 39.4% wt (per 122 kg drum of Americoat Plus 134 add 48 kg of TBA).


Mix the coating well prior to and during application. This coating is best applied at films below 1.0 mil dry fim thickness. Higher film builds can affect the surface appearance.

 

The optimum cure schedule for this product is as follows:

  • 60 minutes minimum at 204ºC (400ºF), peak metal temperature
  • 30 minutes minimum at 218ºC (425ºF), peak metal temperature
  • 15 minutes minimum at 232ºC (450ºF), peak metal temperature

If this product is cured below these temperatures or has less dwell time at peak metal temperature the product may become soft and ultimately result in poor release properties.

Storage

When stored at room temperature 25’C, the coating may be stored for a period of 1 year (12 months).
