My World at WACKER
My path to WACKER IT wasn’t exactly linear: I originally studied business administration and then worked for a while in a consulting company in Burghausen, a company that also took on projects for WACKER. I then initially started at WACKER as a consultant before switching to project management. I wanted to manage projects and take on management tasks in the IT department. Of course, I had to do a lot of training to obtain the necessary IT background knowledge. But the company offered a lot of support.
I currently manage two larger projects and several smaller ones. A major, longer-term project can be, for instance, planning a new production building. A smaller one might be the optimization or automation of a plant. My tasks encompass “typical” project management, such as cost planning and management or resource planning: my approach is to check what resources are needed, which ones are available and at which points I might need to make adjustments. Thematically, I am currently in the concept development phase of my major project: I am writing IT concepts for the interaction of the individual modules, formulating the requirements for the IT systems and handling the tender specifications and performance specifications.
As the project manager, I am also responsible for the technical management of the project team. I need to bring the various stakeholders together and coordinate them. That’s what makes working at WACKER so interesting: I interface with all departments – with Production, Development, the various plants and with Corporate Engineering. That means I can see outside the IT box and observe the interactions between individual WACKER departments.
What motivates me greatly is when I see the results of my work, particularly after a longer project. We optimize processes and digitize plants – that often sounds rather theoretical and abstract, but in the end we have a highly modern plant that is more productive than ever, thanks to us.
