WACKER Supports Indian Aid Organizations with Generous Financial and In-Kind Donations

Wacker Metroark Chemicals (WMC) has made a generous donation of over 15 million rupees (€183,000) to support two aid organizations in their battle against the coronavirus on the subcontinent. WMC has also donated hygiene and health supplies including 1200 bottles of hand sanitizer, 100 masks, 100 liquid hand wash bottles and 80 infrared thermometers. And on an individual level, Wacker Chemicals India employees contributed one day’s salary to a relief fund of India’s Prime Minister.
“Helping one another is very important in the Indian culture, and as a German-Indian company, we consider it our duty to support local relief work wherever we can,” explains Soumitra Mukherjee, Managing Director of the joint venture Wacker Metroark Chemicals (WMC), which manufactures silicone products in India.
The two donations of 7.5 million rupees each (€91,500) went to a relief fund in West Bengal where WACKER’s production site, Amtala, is located, and the Prime Minister’s PM CARES Fund, which coordinates COVID-19 relief in India.
Since isopropyl alcohol and emulsifiers were in stock at the Amtala site, the staff made hand sanitizer and sent 1000 bottles to the District Magistrate Office. Another 100 bottles and 50 masks went to the local police station in Bishnupur. And the same quantity of both hygiene aids was donated to the state government office BDO in Bishnupur. The KEM hospital in Mumbai received 80 infrared thermometers from Group inventories.
The Wacker Chemicals India subsidiary, which organizes the sale of polymer products on the subcontinent, also donated 250,000 Indian rupees (€3,000) to the PM CARES Fund. Many employees contributed by each volunteering a day’s salary.
