Biogenic carbon replaces fossil coal and makes silicon production sustainable
We are replacing coal with biogenic carbon for our silicon production in Holla. A long-term supply contract to this effect has been signed with Aymium, a global clean tech leader. In Holla, Norway, we currently use coal to reduce quartz to metallurgical-grade silicon. This reaction is responsible for a significant portion of our CO2 emissions. The use of biogenic carbon avoids fossil CO2 emissions and is an important step on our journey to climate-neutral silicon production.
